A Spiritual Need in Bedford
Bridging the Gap Between Cities
The town of Bedford is home to 6,700 citizens and is the town center of Bedford County, within which there are more than 80,000 individuals. Bedford County is a rural paradise, sitting at the foot of and leading up into the Blue Ridge Mountains and dotted with dairy farms and orchards. There are a significant number of Biblically reformed churches in the two “small cities” that surround Bedford County (Roanoke and Lynchburg).
However, the distance between these two cities is about an hour and there is a discernable need for a reformed and confessional congregation in the middle of the county.
After much prayer and consideration, in conversation with the members of our congregation who live in Bedford, Mercy, in conjunction with other churches in the Blue Ridge Presbytery, is setting out to plant a PCA church in Bedford.
Church Planting Timeline
In January 2025, a dedicated search committee was established to identify a passionate church planter for Mercy Presbyterian Church. This marks the beginning of our mission to extend our spiritual community.

Formation of Search Committee
A search committee was formed to find a pastor to spearhead the church planting initiative in Bedford, VA.
Summer 2025
Incubation Phase
Plans are underway to start nurturing this Bedford Church plant in Forest, VA during the summer and fall of 2025.
Early 2026
Establishing Roots in Bedford
We aim to establish our new church in Bedford, VA, by early 2026, bringing a reformed and confessional presence to the community.

In 2026, our goal is to integrate into the Bedford community, fostering spiritual growth and connection among its residents.
